Kids Day Recap
The 2023 Kids’ Day came off pretty well despite the Saturday being the coldest day of the season, February 4th.
Mt. Southington restricted the attendance for the event to same number as last year, 80 children was the limit. The deadline for registration was January 20th, which was later extended to January 27th. 63 children signed up for the lessons and lift tickets. Two children cancelled before the event due to illness. Out of 61 children there were 11 no shows. I suspect that the cold weather was the main reason. I really appreciate the many offers of help on the day of the event, but with limits on attendance and no party there was no need for volunteers at this year’s event.
I had to work double shift for the Intro to Racing Program, so I want to thank Jonathan Houck and Krzysztof Lompart for the help given in the distribution of the lift tickets. Mountain Room provided us a dedicated table in a warm environment. New Britain Falcons Ski Club provided hot coffee and donuts.
Mt. Southington did their usual great job in providing discounted lift tickets for both our kids and accompanying adults, as well as quality instructors for our kids. A warm thank you to Andrea and Posi and the entire staff at the mountain!
In summary, we had 61 children participating, with 15 clubs participating. We were able to provide all of our registrants a quality skiing experience while staying at about 75% of budget allotted for the event. Following clubs have signup for the event: Electric Boat Ski & Snowboard Club, AE Ski Club, Norwich Ski Club, CT Soul Ski Club, Ski Bears, Danbury Ski Club, Winterset Ski Club, New Haven Ski Club, Mt Laurel Ski Club and New Britain Falcons Ski & Golf Club.
